The L∞p

Intention

The L∞p integrates the art of algorithmics and cybernetics with the science of the imaginary and the living. The L∞p is a platform for the creation, production and dissemination of new augmented experiences in live performance. It is a real and virtual stage, 360|VR, where we combine the tools of art and science to elaborate a new alphabet and a new narrative grammar with which new narratives of immersion and interaction can be written and represented.

The spectator's presence is translated into a visual and sonic aesthetic with which he or she can identify. The presence of oneself and others is thus integrated into a real-time narrative through the appearance of an avatar, the projection of a sound, a musical line, a vibratory wave, a breath or an image. Each time, the spectators are different, so the interactions are new and the show, in essence, is different every night.

Innovation

The L∞p aims to hybridize the live and digital worlds by augmenting live shows in both 360° and VR. The L∞p's innovative approach is applied at different moments in the life of the show. The spectator's presence is translated into a visual and sonic aesthetic with which he or she can identify. The presence of oneself and others is thus integrated into a real-time narrative through the appearance of an avatar, the projection of a sound, a musical line, a vibratory wave, a breath or an image. Each time, the spectators are different, so the interactions are new, and the show, in essence, is different every night.

By merging 3D creation (projected 360 and VR) and live performance, The L∞p not only accompanies the transformation of the audience's relationship to live performance, but also the transformation of the creation, production and distribution of live performance. By promoting the immersion and interaction of spectators and artists in the same real and/or virtual space, and by generating new forms of storytelling, The L∞p enhances the feeling of live performance and spectators. Thanks to the mobility of the 360|VR devices used, The Loop also enables us to reach out to audiences outside cultural venues, and bring them back into situ through the power of L∞p's creative proposals.

Loop|360

Spectators pull aside the strips of a curtain to enter L∞p|360, crossing the cylindrical screen of the 360 structure. Interaction is non-binding, and the presence of others is obvious. The immersive, interactive structure is an 11.3?m-diameter, 5?m-high cylinder made of aluminum, stretched screen fabric and vinyl screen floor. The structure is equipped with a sound and visual projection system, spatialized on 18 speakers, 10 video projectors, sensitized by 12 suspended infrared motion sensors and controlled by two workstations (wall+floor) and four VR bases.

Loop|VR

Users don VR headsets and controllers to enter L∞p|VR. They find themselves inside the virtual 360 structure. They interact equally with their environment and with other spectators who are also equipped. They all experience the same story, different each time. Twelve HTC Vive Focus 3 headsets and controllers. The focus is on 3D rendering quality and computing power, with a discreet layout for the VR space. The hardware will keep pace with technological developments over the years.
