Le sas, science-art-society group - 2021 - CURIOSITas

CURIOSITas

Our need for stimulation and information is insatiable. Curiosity is one of the most powerful drives of human beings. Curiosity is also a criticized and ambivalous character trait. Curiosity can be unhealthy, but it is also the impetus to discover the world and meet others. Curiosity pushes us to explore, to investigate and to learn.

Curiosity is an internal desire, an emotion that modifies our psychic and physical state. It is a state in itself that recurs in very different contexts and thus defines us. It is on the emotional delight that curiosity operates and on the ambiguity of its consideration that this exhibition is based.

Opening spaces-times of feelings and understanding, of knowledge and sharing, of movement and emotion, art and science tend to reciprocate here. In a multidisciplinary experimental laboratory, they keep an eye on each of us. And ready to exchange the slightest glance, Human bodies, Celestial bodies invites everyone not to divert but to cross his own in a dynamic of exchange and sharing.

The festival aims to engage with a diverse and wide ranging publics :  families and children, young people and students, scientists, artists and all those who want to discover these original projects.

This rich exhibition interweaves theater, multimedia and interactive installations, dance, photography, drawing, plastic arts; as well as climate science, biology, acoustics, computer science, anthropology, optics ....

Exhibition-interaction from November 15 to 25, 2021. Monday-Friday 12pm-2pm. Friday the 19th 12pm-7pm.

To cross one's own body, to travel through the stars, to witness a solar flare, to dive into a black hole, to directly experience gravitational mirages, to hear the song of the earth, to see Mars and touch it a little, to feel weightlessness, to pulsate to the celestial rhythms, to contemplate the deep universe, to make the complex equations of flowers bloom and to see time slow down. The sas>opens to all a tangible digital journey of art-science research in the Great Hall of the Linear Accelerator of Orsay.

Parcours

01_INTO TWO

Art-science creation made of magnetic resonance and printing in grayscale on foliated glass – Polyptych of twenty pieces (60 cm × 200 cm).

01_Deux_de_en_deux_au_sas_01

Into two probes the depths of two beings in order to bring out their inner selves, to unravel their mutual entanglement, to surprise their common dynamics and to let these fragile hearts beat.

02_PRIMARY INTIMACY OF BEING

Mirrors augmented with X rays, nuclear imaging, and magnetic resonance imaging with sensors, gender recognition, computers and 75" screens. Triptych in lacquered glass and oak wood.

A mirror reflects a human being, a woman, a man, as can be probed by X-rays, as can be established by positron emission tomography or as can be revealed by magnetic resonance imaging.

03_THE EYE OF MARS

Martian art-science creation for visitors, sensors, loudspeakers, computers, lenses, mirrors and video-projectors, made of aluminium and acrylic.

03_L_Oeil_au_sas_01

The Eye of Mars mixes science, technology, imagination and dreaming to target the particular relationship that humans have with the planet Mars: yesterday, the fear of a Martian invasion... today, the dream to set foot there.

04_THE CHILDREN OF THE STARS

Stellar composition for visitors, sensors, loudspeakers, computers, videoprojectors, ground projections.

04_Les_Enfants_des_etoiles

Children of the stars takes up the thread of time and space so that beyond the clouds everyone can, even before acting, interact. A stellar system accompanies each visitor in a jumbled journey through the deep universe.

05_COSMIC UTOPIA

Immersive and sensory cosmological exploration

Cosmic Utopia proposes an immersive device exploring a speculative thought experiment in which an eternal inflation due to a quantum fluctuation would emerge around the Sun, moving away in a fraction of a second a space station like ISS at a great distance from the control center on Earth.

06_ HARMONY OF THE WORLDS - THE MOVEMENT INTERVAL

Electronic and digital device without screen around Kepler's laws and the movement of stars. [Arianna Laboratory]

06_L_Harmonie_au_sas_01

Designed as an illustration of the (seeming) simplicity of gravity, Harmony of the Worlds is driven by the movement of three fictional systems.

07_PRONAOS - DANS LE SOUFFLE

Pronaos mission module, vidéo

07_Pronaos_au_sas_01

Between sculpture, cartography and film, this device proposes to explore the path of Pronaos and to experiment the phenomenon of the stratospheric winds and the cosmological diffuse background. [Arianna Laboratory]

08_RHIZOSPHERE

Spatial seeds - booklet

Seeds that have gone into space grow in an isolated cabin on Earth. Between farming and speculative investigation, Rhizosphere reveals a landscape of the in-between and questions the contemporary regimes of circulation of the living. [Arianna Laboratory]

09_ENIGMA

10_SCIdataVR

Collaborative virtual reality

10_SCIdataVR_au_sas_01

The SCIdataVR platform makes us put our feet in the void of the solar system. Using controllers, it is then possible to take hold of the planets that constitute it to observe and manipulate them, to dive into them.

11_THE WEIGHT OF SHADOWS

General relativity, sensor and video projector

The metric of space-time is based on the bodies that fill it. Without realizing it, they weigh on it. As they pass, they modify and distort it. As they pass, they cannot be indifferent to it.

12_KIRUNA - LA MESURE DES FLUX

Sound and video composition, diffused on a curved aluminum plate, computer, millumin software

12_Kiruna_au_sas_01

The Earth is under the influence of the Sun in many ways. Its inconstant magnetic field is particularly strong at high latitudes and adds to the Earth's magnetic field. These variations at different times are measured by the Swedish Institute of Space Physics, data recovered in real time by the Kiruna algorithm that governs the work. [Arianna Laboratory]

13_ACOUSTIC SPACE

Filmic device

13_Acoustic_space_au_sas_01

This film explores the idea that our world is a sphere made up of a plurality of centers and without any limits (Marshall McLuhan). It is based on the experience of Valentina Terchkova, the first woman to go alone into space in 1963. [Arianna Laboratory]

14_LA COURSE DU SOLEIL

Light Sculpture

14_La_Course_du_Soleil

The installation finds its title in the apparent course of the sun: from sunrise to sunset, it describes a curve that has been materialized by a glass composition alternating transparency and light opacity. This glass is a window that gives us a view of the star in its symbolic dimension. A source of life whose circular, all-encompassing shape evokes the love that embraces all things.

15_VOIS MOI À TRAVERS YOU

Relativistic art-science composition for visitors, sensors, loudspeakers, computers and video-projectors.

15_Vois_moi_a_travers_toi

The presence of a massive celestial body distorts space-time. Through this deformation, the light bends. The presence of another also modifies the environment in which we evolve. See me through you tends to make visible the deformations of space-time and tangible the relativity of the observer to others by immersion in the deep universe.

The sas>tries - Stellaris and Galactis

Exhibition, audiovisual performances, immersed conference, electrogalactic dancefloor. Art-science night on Thursday, November 25th 6pm-24pm.

Rediscover the path of electrons in the Orsay Linear Accelerator, follow the tremors of the universe, see the Sun set beyond the visible, dance with the galaxy, Le sas>tries all and everyone to a night between art and science.

STELLARIS_19:00

Audiovisual performance | Didier Ambact | Pierre-Adrien Théo

This performance questions our presence in the cosmos and our relationship to time through a sound and video immersive system allowing the spectator to be immersed in a dreamlike environment. The artists use scientific data from the Institute of Space Astrophysics to create images and sounds in real time.

THE ACTS OF THE DESERT_20:30

Choreographic performance | Smaïl Kanouté | Batiste Darsoulant | Bruno Freyssinet | Ikse Maître

In Dogon country, it is said that every living or dead person owns a star in the sky... This piece traces the initiatory journey of a young dancer in search of his origins in the desert of Mali.

EIDÔLON_22:00

Situationist and proteiform audiovisual performance | Athalei

Eidôlo - Athalei

This piece is an unusual intervention in the middle of the senses that it tries to awaken. It continues with an electrogalactic dancefloor.
